– participative (performance) lecture
The question about the role of art in education, but also vice versa, will be asked along the line of some key insights, resulting from a decade of studying, experimenting with and questioning of art pedagogy, in particular within the new-media or intermedia realms. Of course such an insight cannot be straightforward, and is essentially unreliable. How can we think art, and practice art in the educational domain? How can we look inside this black box and outside of it? An intelligent view will only mediate what it sees – white on black, on the screen, online. The lecture will be delivered to participants for their participation.
pETER Purg explores and teaches New Media (Art). He acts as a performer and media artist, but also as an expert in the area of academic quality, a juror, consultant, and coordinator of projects and networks. He is head of the New Media module within the Digital/Media Arts and Practices graduate/postgraduate programs at the School of Arts, University of Nova Gorica, where he acts as assistant professor and international project manager. Having obtained a PhD in media art and communication and literature sciences from the University of Erfurt, his current scientific inquiries include media arts pedagogy, (inter)cultural management, media ecology and interdisciplinary collaboration. His artistic interests range from intermedia and didactic performances to interactive installations, as well as web art, sound art and body art, with a particular focus on public space. He led the interdisciplinary collective Bobnars United, organizing over a hundred musical and intermedia events and several research projects, and is a co-author of anti-consumerism interventions for the Podgana PPP street performance group.
