Ksenija Čerče (SI)

Beckettovo čelo / Beckett's Forehead
2011–2015
forbidden techniques
240 x 190 cm

Beckett's forehead in the title and in the processes/photographs, which were used to create the painting, addresses Samuel Beckett. Beckett emigrated from Ireland in 1937, following the ratification of national independence in the then Irish constitution. He never returned. He spent his exile years in Paris. In the work Written-off Painting, the word “written-off” covers the entire surface of the painting like a raster (the raster is created by means of the stamped inscription “written-off”, in German). The act of “stamping” (i.e. stigmatizing) and the “written-off” are both tightly linked to actual processes in migration procedures. However, both works address the concept of the exhibition much more through visual (painting) means and transformations into the artistic language, than in the sense of a narrative on the topic of migrations. Both artworks were created between Berlin and Ljubljana.
